Universal Appeal
Transforming a section of the house into a universally accessible suite for aging parents posed multifaceted challenges, requiring a delicate balance between interactive family spaces and the need for separation. Overcoming accessibility hurdles both indoors and outdoors was pivotal, demanding the creation of a fully accessible kitchen and complex elevator retrofit for the suite's second level. Creative spatial reconfigurations, such as a sloping pathway for wheeled access and a foyer dividing the in-law suite, utilized existing space efficiently. The addition of an elevator enabled the retention of privacy by allowing bedrooms to be kept on the upper level. Careful material selection and thoughtful finishing details seamlessly integrated the new suite without altering the original structure, featuring 2 new beautifully designed powder rooms, storage-savvy built-ins, and fully accessible bathrooms catering to every generation's needs. Enhanced connectivity between levels now fosters intergenerational family engagement during dining, movie nights, and bedtime routines. This meticulously renovated suite not only enhances family interactions across generations but also stands as a testament to the seamless fusion of style and functionality, adding immeasurable value to the family's daily life without compromising on elegance.
