Great Expectations

A transformative renovation project emerged from the aftermath of a flood that devastated the kitchen, leading to a scope expansion of adjoining areas for seamless flooring. Confronted with a dimly-lit kitchen and an unwieldy 18-foot island, the goal was to craft a luminous, functional space. The renovation resulted in dual islands, transforming the kitchen into a multifunctional hub catering to culinary endeavors, social gatherings, and a welcoming workspace. A new home office with charming wallpaper and custom millwork was created, while dated fireplace aesthetics in the family room were revamped with the addition of built-ins to address storage deficiencies. Through ingenious spatial planning, the new kitchen layout not only enhances functionality but also fosters a closer connection to the family room. Doubling storage capacity allows for a clutter-free greatroom, while additional seating options like a cozy breakfast banquette and a secondary island dining bar are ingeniously incorporated. Thoughtful design choices facilitate smoother traffic flow with multiple spacious pathways, complemented by internal doors creating an intimate family space separate from the rest of the home. The renovation seamlessly integrates existing and new materials, preserving elements like the hood fan, range, and windows to minimize both cost and waste. Consistent use of a signature stone element unifies the fireplace and pantry, instilling a sense of equilibrium. A sophisticated neutral color scheme, accented with crystalline blues, lends harmonious design cohesion. Porcelain parquet tiles not only exude elegance akin to wood flooring but also promise durability. Panelled appliances discreetly merge the kitchen into the captivating greatroom, maintaining a seamless visual continuity throughout. The revitalized multi-generational home stands as a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship, delighting its owners who now revel in the joy of everyday living within this transformed, harmonious space.

What People Are Saying

Lawrence Green

"I was impressed not only by Sarah's design ability, but also with her level of construction knowledge. I have heard that a lot of designers are good at making things pretty, but are not that great at understanding how things are actually built- Sarah is fantastic at both. I recommend them to anyone and everyone I know without hesitation."

Diane and Vince Grdina

"We were immediately impressed with Sarah's ability to assess our needs and understand the type of home my wife and I wanted for us and our 3 boys. Her attention to detail is flawless and every inch of our fully renovated home is thoroughly thought through. I felt like they cared about our home as much as we the homeowners did."
